I went to the Denizens of the Deep LFS in Fort Collins, CO today to look at a small "red terror" they had. The people took over when the former owners went bankrupt or whatever and lost the store. There were quite a few remaining fish, but they had gotten some more in. I was at the back of the store where they keep the turn-in fish and was asking about the SA/CA cichlids they had. They had really no idea what they had, apart from the convicts, and said all the fish were $10 each. I'm not keen on cichlid ID, but one appeared to be a juvenile (about 4") male red terror (kinda red fins w/ blue dots) and there were some others that I couldn't even try to ID.

They said that a lady came in that cleans out dorm rooms w/ a bucket of 4 fish she rescued from an abandoned aquarium :WHOA: that she found in one of the rooms.

Did you get anything?

I got the small "red terror" but I have no idea if it really is or not. I'd like the get a cichlid ID book and go in and look at the turn-ins again. Next time I go, I will try and get some pix. I'm really starting to get interested in cichlids the more I visit this site, lol. I've always been interested in them, but much more now. I've been learning a lot about diff cichlids and how to ID them from this site, but I'm still far from knowing a lot.

They said they did trade-ins and store credit, unlike the last owners. They probably have all those for $10 ea since most have been there before they owned the store and they dont know what they have exactly. I wish they knew more about the fish, but I may find a gem in there that is worth a lot more than 10.

They also had a keyhole cichlid and a "metae", which I'm assuming was an Aequidens metae.

Those crazy CSU students leaving fish abandoned
I know, right? But, hey, I graduated from there, lol. I hope I learned better than to leave pets alone to suffocate from their own poo and die.

I know. Graduated in fall 03 w/ b.s. in fishery biology. you? i know, i should be able to answer every question on here haha.

Two really good sources when it comes to Cichlids that I used (other than MFK) is Mike from Mike's KF and the web-site http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles

Mike is an amazing resource when it comes to SA/CA cichlids. He's familiar with a few Africans, but his specialty is SA/CA.

I just got a wild caught Geo. Surinamesis (I think that's how it's spelled) from him Yesterday.

yeah, mike has some awesome cichlids that i would love to have some day as breeding pairs in their own tanks, but FoCo is easier for me to go to

sorry, i dont think its call denizens of the deep anymore...not sure what the name is anymore but part of the store is video games, lol. does anyone know if bobby's is still around?
