They have fry that are about 1 month old. I did a water change and went to bed and woke up to a dead momma. Now I have a bunch of dovii fry swimming around with my male

this has happened to me as well.... Ive only had two fish breed for me and both males ended up killing females after water changes.

i hope that doesnt happen, i finally found a female and and he actually likes her, if she dies i'll flip!!

this is why i wouldnt want to keep breeding pairs of really aggro cichlids. ive seen it in salvini, rd, midas, dovii.....

ur supposed to either put a divider that only the female could fit through or a nice hiding spot so she cud escape. these fish are prone to domestic violence and the male will have to face a judge in thhe court of law. when is his arraignment?

Next time I try I'm just pulling the male completely. Dividers with holes don't help when they jump the dividers lol.

This is very common in the confines of an aquarium (especially if under 300+ gallons). While guarding fry, cichlids are in a heightened state of aggression, which in nature is focused on fish other than the pair, and would prey on the fry. Without an outlet, that aggression is often vented on a partner.

bad bad bad dovii. like i said hiding spots .cant just have open water if that male flips a switch he'll go for that kill
