My Male Dovii

Have wanted a male Dovii since i saw REC´s office thread. Will put him in a big tank all for himself someday.
I got him 10days ago, he is 6-7".

He shares a 4x1x1' tank for now with a 16" WA Lungfish and an icelandic eel.
Got a same size buttikoferi with him but he got beaten up and got a new home.
The gravel is white sand which i will switch out for black soon.
He is very very shy :confused: Hangs in the corner all day and is very scared of me and doesnt seem to be eating much.
 
This Dovii is feeling inferior because of the new surroundings and it isnt feeling like the dominant fish YET. But just wait...... that eel will be tasty.
 
wow nice dovii! I have 2 wild caught ones and for sure ones a male and one looks just like yours! but the one that looks like yours likes to change its colors alot! lol
 
Nah.. looks male to me.. Female's don't get the spots above the latteral line.. if they do it's one or two, not a hundred. The body also has a male shape, look at the 3rd pic how it is concaved. Could be wrong but vent it and see.
 
i think it's a male. get some more pics after it destresses a little.

how do you vent a cichlid? or what are you trying to look for when venting?
