I walked past my 600 gallon tank today and saw my largest male biting the rear of my largest female’s fin, repeatedly attempting to flip her over.

She has had disc damage from the male for a few months now; if she does get pregnant, will he cease his mating behavior?

Anyhow, I think pups may soon be on the way. Here’s hoping.

(If I can get a video of this behavior, I will post it here.)

he might not stop... if she gets beat up too much, divide or seperate until she heals

She does have one moderate bite mark on the rear of her disc, but if any serious damage happens I'll be sure to put him in time-out.

Anybody know if the behavior continues into the pregnancy?

Same question we are wanting to know....does this behavior continue after she is pregnant? We have the same situation going on in our pond. She has bite marks, he is constantly chasing after her, he will even grab onto her disc and they will go around and around in circles. Anyone know if the male looses interest after she is pregnant or will this behavior continue forever now? She doesn't appear to be hurt, she is alot bigger than he is, but he has put many "dings" on the back 1/2 of her disc.

In most cases it will not stop. It may slow down a little once she is knocked up. It will pick back up near the end of the pregnancy.

So, all of the males have suddenly left her alone.

I'm going through the same thing.. its a long painful wait to find out if they are pregnant. I spend way too much time every day staring at my female for movement even though I know its nearly impossible to see so short in the pregnancy. Good luck to you :)
