I got him at about an inch 3 monthes ago,he has grown to 4 inches now,he was the calmest cichlid i had.He is living in a 100 gal tank with a 12-14 inch Channel cat.and a 5-6 inch Pictus cat(?not sure what type)well in the last week he has become the boss of the tank(or so he thinks)he chases the Pictus cat all the time and even charges the channel cat(until the channel turns around then the Midas flees),it is pretty funny. But i will be upgrading in a few monthes and want too add more fish,do you guys think it will be possible??The upgrade will be either a 180-200 gal tank.He has grown an inch a month so far,so by then he will be either7-8 inches(by tax season).Do you guys think it is possible to add tankmates then??Thanks!!

If its in a 180-200G tank it should be alright, just make sure any additions are pretty robust and can give some back to him, an err maybe on the inexpensive side just incase....

Hard to say. My RD is an absolute terror. She kills everything in her tank. Including my planiceps and my paulica cats. They were both bigger than her. The only fsh to survive was a xingu II. Which unfortunately passed on after a power outage.

Agressive fish + few fish in the tank= death. If you want your red devil to live with other fish you got to overcrowd your tank. 2, 3 tankmates is a recipe for disaster.

yeh should be fine just add the more aggressive cichlids with him.

RD/Midas are unpredictable. They can be 4" and rule everything yet could be 9" and just then become boss. When they do become boss it's really hard to find a tankmate. I personally never really had a Midas/RD become a nasty little bugger but my Barred Midas is just now becoming really aggro at 8".

I agree with teh overstock idea as well...

If you want to keep more than one you can't just keep 2. Give him some convicts or something to disperse his anger. Any of the fish balton listed I think would be good. I would say atexas but they look really similar and I have heard times when they just kill each other, but you could maybe try it. Just make sure you get enough to disperse aggression.

my midas just flipped **** at about 9-10 inches. he tried to kill my jag and myan, so he is separated from everybody else until i can figure out something to do with him
