The guy is close to 14 inches, yet his favorite food is tiny tropical granuals, which he eats out of the cap and picks up, vacuum-style, off the bottom, after which he filters sand out his gill plates.
Mine boy is just about 9" and stopped eating floating pellet foods. He prefers to pick NLS sinking pellets off the bottom now. He also has become kind of a dainty eater in that he just does not go after large food items anymore. He will not touch night crawlers at all where as in the past he would try to take down food that was way too big for him. Who knows what he will do next, when Midas set their mind to something and you never know what they will do.
Hmm it sounds like he likes foraging. I've had a couple of fish like that, who really enjoyed scanning the bottom of the tank and discovering food. My current Midas, who's only 3", is like that. I feed regular pellets all the time but he much prefers the NLS cichlid granules that he can sift through the sand for.
