I hope I got the name right! Lol. This is my fish. He was listed at petsmart as assorted ca/sa but the fish girl told me it was a flowerhorn that was returned because it was too mean! I said, too mean? Send him home with me! I put him in a 56 gallon column with a 4" Oscar (same size as the "flowerhorn") 5 zebra danios, 5 tiger barbs, and two bamboo shrimp. He commenced to killing everything in the tank but the shrimp, and then started changing colors from what I assumed was flowerhorn colors. I posted him in the flowerhorn section worried for his health and was told he was a Midas red devil cross or Midevil? And that he was fading. So I figured I had him posted in the wrong section and decided to put him over here to get some feedback from you all. What do you think of him? Btw he is now 5.5" maybe 6" he's growing like a weed and seems to be still fading and now is developing a nuchal? Hump. Oh and yes I know the he may not be a he. I just am tired of saying it or he/ she. Lol one day I may vent him.

As said, a bautifull monster in the making.

He has nuchal hump potential.

Hope he retains that black, or at least part of it.

And yes, you got the name right. It is a " hobby " designation for fish from the Midas complex where one cannot be sure of the linneage of said fish. It could either be a Red Devil ( a. Labiatum ) or a Midas ( a.citrinellum ) or any of the other Complex species, BUT, without knowing one cannot assume it is pure and never will be considered as such.

And that is why it will always be considered a Midevil.

For me ( and it is worth nothing considering the above explained ) it has more of a Midas feel than a Devil's.....in looks, I mean.

I would keep nothing else with it.
1 beacause it will kill it
2 because 56 gallon tank is barley enouf for 1 flowerhorn

Anyway that flowerhorn is nice, they are very aggressive. When i put mine with my jack dempsey the flowerhorn attacked it.

Looks like some kind of Hybrid (maybe a Blood parrot & Midas & Red Devil fish).
Keep an eye on him- He is starting to Fade- You may be surprised by his colors in the future (or not ;) )

He has the superficial characteristics of a midas appearing midevil(thick shape blunt snout...)but still strikes me as some type of flowerhorn hybrid.....

Whatever he is he's cool! Update: woke up today and the blacks and greys are fading more. Probably gonna end up being solid orange huh?

I'm with them, looks more Midas then devil to me as well. Either way it's a awesome fish. I hope it keeps the black color. I love when they have multi colors, it makes them more individual as opposed to the everyday orange.
