I am having differculty searching my old breeding thread so I decided to make a new and keep all my breeding video together. I know some of you are tired of seeing my video ...............SORRY



Quick info on my collection and setup. Please note that everyone have their own "method" of keeping fishy. This method is my method, it is a bit crazy :)



Farm #1 and Farm#2:



Equipments Farm#1 -

180G, 2x FX5, 2x AC110, 1x fake plant, 100lb Lace Rock, 2 x 300W Heater, Pool Sand (from Home depot), 72" Single T8 Fixture (10K Lamp), 24" T5 Fixture (blue Acritic)

Equipments Farm#2-

125G, 1x Fx5, 2x AC110, 2x Sponge Bob Stuff, 30lb Lace Rock, 2x 300W Heater, Pool Sand, 48" Double T5, 24" Double T5 (blue acritic)



Prisoners Jail#1 -

10x WC Moba (1:9), 40x Clown Loaches, 12x Albino Sailfin Pleco, 1x Crawfish

Prisoners Jail#2 -

8 x WC Moba (2:6), 12x L14 Sunshine, 1x Mbu Puffer



Aquascape -

1. We use pool sand for the bedding, the sand barely cover the ground. Pro: Elimate bacteria growth and reduce waste harboring. Con: Drop anything hard, the tank will break.

2. Lace Rock and fake plant are used as decoration. I tried not to them too many hiding spot. I hate hiding fish. There are only two cave: one for the male and one for wholing female. The caves are big enough where I can see them at all time. There are three breeding spot for them to breed, can you find them?

3. The heaters are never on. The temperature is whatever my room is. Temp range from 65-72, hence that what my ac is set to 24/7/365.

4. The lights are on a timer. The main lighting is the 10K fixture (5:30am to 8am, 5pm to 12am) and the 25k fixture is on 24/7. My lights are set where I can see them whenever I am home. Both tanks are set this way.



Maintance -

1. 95-98% water changed weekly without changing filters; 30% water change if the fx5 filter are changed. The Fx5 is never cleaned unless the flow slows completely. The two ac110 are changed each month.

2. The gravel are vaccum and clean throughly, which there are not much cleaning since there arent much gravel.

3. The aquascape is never distrubed unless I get bored which will stop and messup their breeding for a month or so lol.

4. I dont check the PH or ammonia. If i see them acting funny, i do a 25% water change.



Feeding -

1x Massivore Pellet per Moba. Therefore, 10 pellet (wednesday) and 4 shrimp (sat) for farm#1; 8 pellet (wednesday) and 2 shimp (sat) for farm#2 once a week. Yes, thats all. I tried feeding them more, but they dont eat. I dont know what they are feeding on but they are always fat and always mating No, all my clownloaches are there.



Breeding -

I am constantly getting frys. Sometime, I dont even bother stripping them. Breeding usually occurred ever 2-3 week each tank. If you look via all my video, someone is always wholing. My two breeder colony are hand selected from 50+ Wc Moba, which I have held for months. I only kept the ones that breed and the rest I sold or traded. I use to have 4 colony but I downsize since I dont have time for so many.



I sold them to two of my close friends, one breeding like rabbit but the other not so much. I gave him my prized proven beta male and couple rabbit females but they only breed for him twice. IMO, he keep adding mean fish and he cant keep his hand out of the tank I need to visit his colony to help him out.

19 March 2013: Frys in Tumbler #1 are sold, Tumber 2 and 3 are moved to growout tank. New strip and another wholing female pending.

9 April 2013: Strip the two female after I return from vacation. Quick video update of the frys. Tumbler 2, I lost a bunch because the tumbler malfunction when I was away. But the two new stripped made up for it. There are 3 female from Farm#2 (these were forsale, but sale fell via, The females breed while I was always. The new owner could have made 2x his money back if he have brought it). I will strip these next week.

What are your water parameters? Ph,gh,kh, temp?

Several things:
1.

You shouldn't do this, this way you are inducing their reproduction but stoping natural behavior. Also if you let a colony of bacteria settle in the filters, gravel and water you will see a cleaner tank over time and less diseases , etc..
2. Too many Loaches, you should have about 10, and IMO I would keep Synodontis with the Moba.
3. You seem having experience with them but I think that you should keep them now in a more natural way and try and create a biotope. I think that you now know a lot about them breeding and therefore should learn about their behavior.

Just my opinion.

I dont really keep track of the temp or water chemistry as stated before. Whenever the water is dirty, I just do a water change. Filter clean whenever it is clogged.

I appreciate your opinion and input, but everyone has his/her own method of keeping fish. Some work for somes and not for others.

1. The aquarium is located inside, so I put the bacteria level on check. I do allow bacteria builtup; I do not do water change and filter cleaning on the same week. My fx5 are changed only when it is clogged.... like once ever 3-4 month depending on feeding level. Gravel are used sparely, barely covering the bottom. This keep the tank cleaner and help reflect some light upward. Ick and other disease lives in the gravel.

2. I have kept syno cat before; they breed too much, eat front eggs, and are cheap.... They are a bad combination for frontosa. Syno cat eat the eggs and replaced them with their own; they breed like rabbits and are dirt cheap. Clownloach are layed back and peaceful. They swims in schools and worth more as they get bigger. Price of clownloach runs around $7-8/per inch and when they get big, they are an awesome sight.

3. Natural cost$$ and sometime doesnt really work well. They wouldnt be breeding if they wasnt happy. It would be awesome if I have space where I can upgrade their home into a mini tank too
 
Very insightful info here! I have a small colony I am trying to get some breeding out of. One question I have is when you do a water change, do you use slightly cooler water when you fill the tank or same temp water? My tank is 78 degrees and I have been trying to induce breeding with weekly 75% water changes and refilling w/ slightly cooler water.
