that a filter has to do all of the work for cleaning the tank and your not supposed to do water changes and itll kill the fish and i get into so many arguments over this with her and tell her water changes are pretty much what your supposed to do as well and she says im gonna laugh when your fish die from it and say i was right when really i know im right since i actually know about fish do research and im a member of MFK so im sure id know she has no education on animals its ridiculous..please help me tell her im right about this cause i worry about my fish being filthy if i dont do it but at least i got a good filter..:nilly::ROFL::confused::(:)

longest. sentence. ever.

Yeah water changes are a must between 50%-75% depending on the stock....Filters will not permanently remove waste, Carbon looses its absorbancy after a month and Nitrifying bacteria can only break down Ammonia and Nitrite to a point. Nothing fully takes out Nitrate that's why you have to do Water Changes

My Moms says that proper punctuation and grammer is a necessary life skill.

Anyway, I'd go easy on your Mom as she has many more things to worry about than how to maintain a fish tank.

Plants do, but water changes are more important than just removing nitrates. They replace the minerals that are lost as the fish take them up, and remove the hormones that build up in the water that the fish release.
