Hey guys,
i bought a Motoro female about 2 months ago. Beautiful captivating animal. She began floating yesterday. Woke up this morning with the dreaded "Death Curl". Im really sick about that.
80 degree temp, 6.0 PH, 0 nitites, ammonia, etc.I screwed up and used GH PH down to adjust it. I know its safe for plants, but obviously not stingrays. Senegalus Bichir, Silver Arowanna, Red tail Catfish and a Tiger Shovelnose and a Columbian Gar were tank mates which were unharmed. Thank God.
Im gonna start all over with a new tank and everything dedicated to just Motoro's and Leo's. Gotta do some more researching I suppose and find me some pups.
Thanks for listening,

DerekB

Sorry to hear. It is almost never necessary to adjust PH. Doing so is stressful to fish, and it is stressful to ALL fish. Learn from your mistake, and I wish you the best of luck on your next ray.

That sucks Derek. Sorry for your loss. I have learned with these guys it is best to go with a Ray specific tank when first starting. For me...having a ray in a community tank, just made things more complicated.

Thankyou for responding so quick guys! Its only been 5 minutes! Yes I certainly have learned from my mistake. Ill leave that alone, the Ph. Or start with and use bottled. Its neutral I believe. Ive got high Ph outta my well, but its a spring, not a traditional well. 10.2 outta the tap.
Thankyou also for the link. I really look forward to getting more. Was just getting ready to purchase a trio and 350 gal to attempt breeding. This morning was abit discouraging, ya know, but Ill be alright.

10.2 out of the tap is clearly not acceptable but ph down is going to only lead to stress.

I would not want to drink that myself. I wonder if ro water is the solution and then re mineralise?

I do not know a simple solution, what does the tap water settle to overnight, maybe leave some in a bucket and check as I think it will drop quickly to a normal level, if this is the case then that is the solution.

hey another guy from MI ;)

i would also age your water over night and see where its at. a drip system might be a good idea depending...

sorry for your loss

Great ideas with both settling and R/O Just Toby. Thankyou for all of your support and sympathy. It sucked. I wont lie. before I put another one through that ive gotta get that taken care of. Check my buddies water too and find the best possible alterative maybe. A bit cheaper than the R/O purifier. lol.

Hey bro! A fellow Michigander! I seen your from Sterling Heights. Goodstuff. My father in law lives down there. We're down there all the time. I seen you had some available. Id like to acquire another Motoro or actually a trio. Ive gotta get this water conditioning problem worked out though. Are you affiliated with or own Amazon Stingrays?
