i cant get my tank to stop leaking. i built it out of 3/4 plywood. liquid nails for the panels. screws every 2 inches., drylock several coats and fiberglass resin all seams under the paint. and plexiglass in front. the front panel leaks on the bottom. i sealed it with silicone and used a lot of resin under the silicone inside and outside the glass on the bottom to stop stress fractures.i sanded the resin good so the silicone would stick. its 4 feet long by 2 feet wide and two feet high. no matter how much resin or silicone i use. it still leaks. why is this. if i grind off the silicone and pour concrete along the bottom front then paint with drylock. will that work. i used 1/4 inch plexiglass as i could not afford 1/2 inch. i know that may have something to do with the problem. liquid rubber is too much money for me right now.
i built a tank before that which is over 6 feet long about 18 inches wide and high. i used scrapwood and the bottom was two seperate peices screwed togeather on the bottom. it took over a year to stop the leaks. over a gallon of resin. drylock about two gallons . tried flex seal in the can. about 13 cans, total garbage. 6 tubes of silicone later on all the seams and the leaks finally stopped. however the front consisted of 3 seperate 18 by 24 inch panels instead of a single panel of 1/4 inch plexiglass. much of the problem as you can imagine was the bottom where the seperate panels were joined. about two inches of resin and lots of cloth were used there.
The tank is empty. I got a painted turtle in a 30 gallon glass tank and 3 swamp eels in another 30. i also got some smaller river fish in a 55 with albino frogs a couple of bala sharks and a big algie eater named scooby do. plus a 45 gall 5 sided tank with some goldfish. please someone help as the leaky tank needs to be fixed as the fish in the 55 are outgrowing their tank and im moving and the long empty tank is too heavy to move.
