Just was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about this new 185 gallon setup of mine. BTW this the largest by far aquarium I have ever tried. I intend for this to be a Amazonian type setup. I have kept Africans mostly in recent times in a couple of 75 gallon tanks.
The aquarium is 60x30x24 its 185 gallons I believe. I have a FX5 filter and a small H.O.T. filter. The FX5 has Seachem bio media and Zeolite and some pot scrubbers and some charcoal. The H.OT. has just charcoal. Substrate is 90 % sand 10% fine gravel @ about 2.25 inches depth average. Occupied by one arowana @4.25 in two Blue dempseys @1.75 in. One normal Dempsey @1.25 in. One Skinny type shovelnose (I forget the scientific name but they appear starved but it is just their body shape) @3.25 in. I have a couple of pieces of sinking bogwood extra large and about five five-inch smooth river stones. I added salt, de-chlorinator, ammonia remover, and melafix (at about two thirds dosage) initially as a precaution. It has a 4 foot double light fixture on it and a 250 watt ebo jager and a 75 watt ebo jager heater on it. Also I added a lot of floating hornwort plants. I threw in some Ghost shrinp and guppys for feeders. Of course, I tested for Ammonia and nitrite before adding fish and put about 40 gallons total of established aquarium water from my other tanks. I will make changes as the fish grow and as I am more sure it is properly cycling. I will post some pics as soon as I can get a decent picture with my cheapo camera. TIA for all responses.
