So I'm in the process of getting a 480 gallon acrylic. Just waiting for payday then my first day off to go pick it up. So while i wait for Friday to hit we are in planning mode. I need to build a stand. I also need to plan on how to filter this monster. I have been talking to egon some about filtering but decided i will join others into the talk of this. So far we know that a drip system as awesome as it would be is not possible at this time. Also I rent so need to be able to move the set up someday is a must. I was thinking of building a pedestal stand. the tank is 8'X4'X2' tall.

I want the top of the tank to sit at 5 ft. so the stand will have to be just under 3ft. if i build a 6'X2'X 2.75' box for the center and put 4"X4" post at the outer corners and use 1"X6" boards for the boarders on top and bottom of everything plus use 3/4" ply wood for the top will this be sufficent enough for the stand.

Thanks egon!

I still need feed back on the stand idea

some of my only concerns are will there be enough support if the center and the corners are the upward force. both the box and the out side will have a 1X6 border and the whole top will have 3/4 plywood and 1" thick Styrofoam.

A tank that size I would want to support it equally to distribute the load. That's a LOT of weight to support and you do not want to be suspending any part of your tank in the air unsupported. I'd be building a stand 1" longer and wider than your tank.

Unfortunately, you’re going to have to put a seam in the stand. You will need two sheets of plywood unless you can find a 9x5 sheet? I think they are made for ping pong tables? Why do you want to make the tank stand larger? It would be so easy to just lay a sheet of 4X8 ply down and call it a day?

A 2X4 stand will hold that weight fine with one sheet of 3/4" ply on the top. I would skin the back and sides with at least 1/2" plywood to keep the stand from rocking/shifting.

Put the largest sump possible under it. You can get cheep 125's on CL, at least around here (Arizona). Or just build up a large 2X4 box and put a pond liner in it. You can make the whole bottom a sump! :) Dang it all the options are killing me :) So jealous
