I picked this up on craigslist about a week ago. It was used for saltwater and the guy just drained it, so it took me a week to get it clean enough to even post pics! (that's condensation on the sump, it's not dirty). I'm planning on replacing both bulkheads before I fill it but I had to order them online so I'll just have to wait. This is my first wet/dry setup so any advice would be appreciated. This tank is intended for two Gold Saums and I'm thinking this would be the perfect filter system for sand! I'm also planning to run a Rena xp2 canister with it to remove smaller partices.001.JPG002.JPG003.JPG

thats gonna be sweet .your fish are gonna love you

I'm going to re-plumb this whole thing to increase flow and clean it up a little, do I have to keep the back-flow valve? It seems pointless because I have the box inside the tank to keep it from siphoning the whole thing. I'm going to keep the valve that regulates the flow, but I would like that to be the only thing between the pump and the bulkhead. 001.JPG002.JPG

Ok so too late, I already replaced the pvc with tubing and got rid of the backflow valve. I didn't like the 28" stand so I built a base out of 2x6, attached it to the bottom of the stand, then painted and installed 1x8 base trim around the bottom. Now its 34" tall:D I also painted the back of the tank black but I left the overflow clear for viewing. Still waiting for the bulkhead I ordered and I ordered two natural daylight bulbs for the dual T-12 hood from my local Hydroponic store(the hood had red spectrum coral bulbs in it). I'll have this up and running in no time!007.JPG001.JPG003.JPG002.JPG005.JPG

Well, it holds water! I have had my tank cycling since Friday with one bag of play sand and it just cleared up, and that's after I rinsed the crap out of it. I've been adding live bacteria per instructions and I add five gallons of water every two days from my established tank. I also put two pieces of mopani( with snails) in there.006.JPG007.JPG In about seven days I'm going to add some small fish that my terror will eat later. Which is healthier: guppies or tetras?
