I'm thinking of keeping dempsies. I was considering a male and female pair, but now I'm getting mixed messages from my extensive internet searches. Some sites say a pair will be fine in the tank, some say you should by a pre-matched pair, others say the male will kill the female! I'm not SO concerned with breeding, if it happens cool, food for my other fish, but I'm more concerned about my fish getting injured or killed. I still have a while to go, as I still have to cycle the tank, but I want to figure out what I want to do with the tank so I can start decorating!
Can I just buy a male and female and plop them in there or do I have to find a matched pair? Should I just go with an oscar instead and call it a day?
