This weekend I picked up a trio of amphilophus hogaboomorum. I was worried I may not get a pair but 10min in the tank and 2 of them are flaring and tail slapping each other. I am positive they will spawn soon. The third wheel got beat pretty bad. I had to drop them off in their tank and then I had to leave for a day. The male was pretty badly beaten. Not thinking I put him in the 29 where my centrarchus are currently spawning. I left for a second and came back to find the centrarchus ripping scales off the hog struggling to defend himeself. poor guy :(. I will try to sell him once he heals up but he is pretty badly beaten. Right now he is divided in a 29. Do you guys think it is bad to leave him in the divided 29? would it be better to put him in a seperate 10 gallon tank? SHould I do anything extra to help him heal? The hogs are still a bit shy. The female is more outgoing so I managed to snap some pics of her. She is gorgeous! I will post pics of the male once they settle a but.

On a bit of a side note... I got the fish from the CCA meeting Saturday really wish I could have stayed. Anyways want to thank Jon again for the awesome fish.

Anyway, pics of the female

she looks great,i hear they maybe stay on the smaller side, for amphilophus? you could put the injured fish in a 10 with extra salt, would probably heal better not having the stress of seeing the others across the divider

That may be I will separate him. I have noticed the cents charging him through the divider. As for their size I suppose they get a bit smaller than say midas but not by that much. I have seen 12-14" for males and maybe 8-10" for females. I have seen midas break the 14" mark.

Are they WC , F1 what? Since my 2nd pair male died, I am looking for a stunner male.

The beat up fish I have is a male. These are F1 fish from Mo's wild pair.

Female looks good in her new home. Bummer that the third wheel took such a beating. I think that Mo keeps his group as a reverse trio. They are pretty tough, so he should be able to heal up soon enough. Throw him in the ten with some melafix and lots of water changes. Hopefully the pair will spawn for you.
