I Recently bought a 13" Aimara . Great looking fish. one problem- it wont eat and hasent for 2 weeks now !.ive tried everything from various live feeders to numerous dead baits- prawns, lancefish , mussels etc And this is my 2nd fish - i had another one and that didnt eat too and died after 3 weeks!!!
ive never had any problem with any other fish and that is my only ever death!
I have 5 tanks and keep predators ranging from p.bass to giant snakeheads, alligator gar, golden dorado, armatus and jardini arowana.
I do 25% water changes on all my tanks twice a week and run 2 x fx5 on most tanks .I also have 2 air stones and powerheads on most tanks .
My water parameters are near perfect( 0 nitrite, 0 ammonia, and 40 Nitrate, ph- 7.3) and i keep all my tanks at 28 degrees.
The fish is alone in a 350 liter tank

Someone help please

Mine does this when I first bought it. It wont eat anything for a week, then I noticed that my ghoshshrimps in the same tank went missing one by one. I tried feeders gold fish on the first few days after arrival, but he did not touch them at all. But then after he started hunting them, but still wont eat the feeders. The usual habits, would chew the food and spitting them out again. This has gone on for several days. Sooner after, he started eating those feeders. So I think give it sometimes, but just don't overfeed. Post some pics so that we can see it. GL..

Thanks for the advice but im just worried its going to die again like the last one. I have posted picks on a new topic ,which i would be grateful if you could take a look at to confirm also that it is a aimara and not a black wolf.
today i have put two 1.5" goldfish in there to try and tempt him. he just doesnt seem interested tho, and also nothing like the crazy aimaras ive heard about on here. very timid in fact

Don't worry about it. I have two and they can be sensative to being moved, typical behavour will be to bite food a spit it out. My smaller one didn't eat for a month. How large is the aquarium as with other juvenile predators they can be nervous in large open aquaria.

Are you in the UK? if so where did you get it from. Any questions please ask.

yours is curupira indeed, I have one also, but now he is in my outdoor pond. Mine one is active when the lights are out, and he loves earthworms alot. So maybe you can try the same. Seen it on your other thread, I think you can add some hiding place, maybe make the tank lights a bit dim. How big is that tank? looks abit too small for him, maybe a full tank pic?

Ive tried feeding the fish earthworms today and it has taken them in dim light, so thanks for the advice guys.
Still not happy tho as i Bought and paid for a Aimara and the fish i have quite obviously is not.so i will be returning it soon and then trying to locate the real Monster fish-the Hopilas Aimara

I suspect what could have happened is that curupira often come into Europe as Hoplias macrophthalmus, this was an old name for aimara until they were proved to be the same species and the first name, aimara, took precedence. your supplier may have put 2 and 2 together, unfortunatly they got 3. If it came over from europe I suspect you probably paid curupira money.
