My new aquarium. What catfish should I put in there?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was just kidding! Figuring your a "Mod" kinda figured they were juvies. Have fun. Heres an idea just for fun you should try adding a marine clown fish just for the heck of it, or not. It actually sounds like a very bad idea. Good Luck with your cat tank!

I know you were kidding. ;) I was being serious when I said I'm glad everyone is taking it light hearted. I don't have anywhere near proper housing to get those kind of cats right now. They are a thing of the past, at least for the time being. I won't even think of getting a catfish that gets more than 2' for the time being. I am actually doing some research and making a list right now of catfish I might actually be able to house lol. Then I'll be hitting up some old contacts to see what they can get me. Gonna cost an arm and a leg no matter what I get. I am kind of a silly guy as you'll find out. Been keeping catfish for a long time including some monsters. Check in every now and then hopefully I'll be able to get some interesting species.

Aguarunichthys tocantinsensis, Ageneiosus marmoratus, Aguarunichthys torosus, Asterophysus batrachus, Calophysus macropterus, Cephalosilurus apurensis, Cephalosilurus fowleri, Cephalosilurus nigricaudus, Chrysichthys ornatus, Megalonema platanum, Hemisorubim platyrhynchos, Pimelodus albicans, Pimelodus ornatus, Platystomatichthys sturio, Centrodoras brachiatus, Wertheimeria maculata, Rhinodoras dorbignyi, Hemibagrus punctatus, Mystus leucophasis, Tachysurus fulvidraco

This is a small list of catfish I might be considering! Narrowed it down to some species that stay between 10"-22" max. I have the 100 gal and the 30 gal for now. That's what I will have at least until next spring. That's when I want to move into my own place again and kick this thing into high gear!!!

if you're looking for an odd rare cat id go with a Hemisynodontis membranaceus (if you could get one that is) very cool fish.you could grow that out in the smaller tank than put him in the 100. Or id do Brachyplatystoma rousseauxii i think one of these could live in the 30 for life

lol, nice one with the rousseauxii. I really wanted to get one before when i was building the 4000 gal, but wasn't to be. maybe in the future though. Seen pics of the membranaceus before. That's a big syno. Would be cool to have a catfish with that huge of an adipose fin. Would probably be 10"+ tall when full grown.

Updated pics of the tank. Also lfs actually surprised me and has banjo catfish in!!! Might get whatever they have left tomorrow!!! Also they have a crappy used stand that would do the trick for now for $20. So cost for me on this tank so far is $20 lol. Doesn't get much better than that!!! Might leave it bare bottom for ease of use! yay! gonna have a catfish tank in my room!!!!! I feel like a kid again lol.

lol, so just thought about it. I now have two fish tanks and only have $20 invested between each for everything lol. That's gonna change though. :)

I really think gar, aro and heck even mabey 3 foot paroon shark would be perfect for that tank. If you get luck enough to find bigfoot he could probably fit in there too! haha but on the serious side hoplo cats are pretty cool and mine looks like he has body armour and is active 24/7.

All good suggestion people!!!! lol. I fear that my tank is now over stocked though!!!!! Just look at it!!!
