Well I finally got a silver arowana today! He's about 7.5 inches and got him for 30 bucks super healthy and really excited to have in in my tank!

It's actually crushed coral. I heard its really good for the fish. They do have crushed coral sand though as well, just really really fine grain.

Haha yeah but it's worth it I like how it looks at this one fish store where I just went it wasn't t bad actuallyfor the price. And really did it hurt?? Ha that's what I'm worried about when he gets bigger!

Good grab on the aro man!! 30$ is a sweet deal!....
I do have a warning for you if you choose to listen... crushed coral will definitely raise the Ph in your tank to above what is needed for a silver arowana and you'll never be able to lower it without dosing! Yes crushed coral is beneficial,but not as a substrate. If I were you, I would immediately switch that out with something that looks like it and just use a media bag half filled with crushed coral and put it in your filter. That's where the Benifits will be. I use duckweed in my tanks that eat Ph like crazy and run crushed coral in the filters to buffer the Ph. My Ph is 6.9 to 7.0 Always. Never changes.

Somewhat it was so fast i didn't realize until he was back in the water...i hand feed him .. but when he is bigger ill stop doing that

Crushed coral will be of no benefit to your FW fish unless your water is too soft and it needs buffering. I'd suggest checking your pH and hardness as it'll probably be way higher than you want/need for keeping fish like arowana that generally come from softer water. Also check the tap water you use for water changes as that will determine if you need the coral.

Nice looking silver tho, looks good in that set up!
