He once in a while will stop moving.. and just hang out in one spot moving nothing but his eyes, for about 5 min. Is this normal? just resting? I have never had one before.. and hes not eating my tiny little 3/4 inch tetras, i thought all 30 of them would be gone by tonight.

hes been in the tank for about 3 hours now

lol... hes hiding under a magazine too, I didnt have a big enough piece of glass to cover the openings in the tank, so i put a magazine over the end... maybe he is reading =]

What are your water parameters? Temp? Nitrates? What size tank? What size Arowana?

Unless you want your Arowana on the floor i would find something else to cover your tank with besides a magazine!

100 gal long water is 80 and im not sure about nitrates i need to go get a little test kit :P

also he is only about 7 inches long, I am probably underestimating but he doesnt appear big enough to push much more than some construction paper away from the top. It is a brand new tank setup all new water, i used some seachem with the initial water, and have a rena xp2 with super carbon and ceramic rings inserts. Ilet it run for 2 weeks with some of the more durable fish (tinfoils)

as you said i think he was just getting used to new tank, hes now swimming laps in the dark. and my ghost knives are running around too..

how often do u do water changes? without a test kit, how do u know there isnt something goin on with ur water???

with a new tank that u dont know is cycled or not.... it could be a number of things...

K nitrate (no3) = 0
Nitrite = under .5
hardness = 50
alkalinity = 80
Ph = 6.4
Amonia is kinda high between 3.0 and 6.. closer to the 3 tho...

I have the test strips that dont give you an exact measurement and you match the colors with another to get a number
