Some of you guys may remember my last post. I was deciding what fish to get. Here is the link if u missed it http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=255541 Well today i finally thought id empty my fry tank. The tank had about 200-300 angel and golden sev fry at a guess. Well i spent 2 hours this morning netting them out of the big tank, the intention being that my LFS said they would take some from me. Tbh i just wanted them out the tank. I managed to get about 200 fry out, leaving at a guess about 70 babies still in the tank ( you know what its like netting fry they dart into all the little crevices and holes). I felt a little cruel on the remaining babies, having raised them and watched them from eggs. I knew my new oscars would see them as lunch. And indeed they did. Within say, 3 mins from comming out the bag my 3 oscar babies (about 2 1/2 " - 3") were darting all over the tank chasing down and eating all the remaining fry. I left them to it and had a power nap for an hour. When i woke i checked on the oscars and they had ate the lot! all of them were fat bellied and there was hardly any fry left to be seen. Also in the tank were 5 siameese flying foxes and 4 zebra danios. The oscars are now in the process of trying to eat these aswell, even tho the fish really dont look like they could manage such a big meal. Anyways, the fish seem to have settled down a lot now so i took a few pics. Sorry for the slightly foggy pics, its from the oscars chasing down and hitting the sand in the bottom as they are trying to get at the other fishes. I like these fish allready they seem to be scared of nothing and very active, which is what i wanted.

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o285/epouhage/IMG00012-20090712-2001.jpg Here is the trio swimming in the direction of the danio's and the foxes.

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o285/epouhage/IMG00013-20090712-2001.jpg In this pic you can really see how small these little fella's are. You can just about see the siameese flying foxes fleeing above them.

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o285/epouhage/IMG00014-20090712-2004.jpg I managed to get a pic of these 2 as they were resting a little, their colours were much brighter in the shop and i intend to get them glowing red again :).

Also on a side note, im thinking of starting a thread on these fish where every week im gonna take some pics to show the progress and growth rate, and generally a sort of diary about my fish. I think it would be quite interesting, and maybee helpfull to some would be oscar keepers. They would be able to see the kinds of foods im feeding (Btw, i DO NOT intend feeding any type of live foods such as fish, mice etc, as i really think with the quality of other foods on the market there is really no need, plus i just generally dont agree with it. A bit contratictorary as i put them in with fry, but no other fish will be used for food.) They would also be able to see how the fish are interacting etc. Im gonna see if i can 'train' my fish to become hand tame. I will also include all these details aswell. Let me know what you think to this idea:D. Well just thought id share my new fishes with you guys, see ya all soon;)

Im also open to suggestions for names for the trio, try to get names that dont relate to a sex if u can. Thanks :)

The trio are getting along fine. last night there was some liplocking and 'shivering' next to each other. I asume they are already sorting out who is boss in the tank. The fish are very active and always seeking food. I knew these fish could eat but whoaa! they are like garbage cans they just cant get enuff food. A fwe hours ago i came home from work and noticed the a change in behaviour, i allready think they recognise me as their food provider, cos as soon as i got close to the tank they were swimming up to the top looking for food. I thought this would be a good time to start to train my trio. I got myself a frozen cube of bloodworm and held it firmly under water so the fish could definatley see my fingers holding the cube. Well let me say, my fingers didnt stop them at all they were like mini piranhas :ROFL:they demolished the cube and one of them even tried to snatch it from my fingers. I hope this way i can teach them im no threat and if anything, hopefully, i can train them to become a little more tame as time goes by. I have seen several video clips of people 'petting' their oscars, and id like to be able to do the same eventually. Anyways i just thought id give ya all a little update :)

Sounds good, thnx for the update. I've enjoyed reading thus far and look forward to hearing about your progress. Good luck with the training!!!!! My O is about 7-8 inches and I have him eating out of my hand although he does get a little frantic and evey once in a while will think my finger is food, its all good though....

This could be a very good thread, it was also a good read, thanks!

theyre going to grow so fast .. and poop like crazy hahha

So true, so true...

Thanks for all the replys:). Im glad you guys like the thread. I thought it would be interesting to share my experiences with other keepers. I think, i may have made a mistake in judging the size of my fish. Take this pic as an example http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o285/epouhage/IMG00019-20090713-1942.jpg

This is me pressing a uk 2 pence peice up against the glass. The fish are right next to the glass, almost flat against it as they are very interested in this new shiny brown coin. Id say at a guess, that the babies are actually 2"-2 1/2" at most. I shall use this picture and the method ( and im gonna keep this very same coin for all the pics) in my picture updates so people can see visually how much growth has occured with the trio. Im also gonna try to get some more accurate pictures, less blurry and more defined. Unfortunatley all i have is my blackberry atm and the fish are quite quick so taking a good clear pic is proving a futile effort at present.
Anyways thanks for all the comments :D
