Nice collection. Should turn into a great tank as they grow. Your JD looks female to me and you GT looks male. Although I've never been great with juvy GT sexing

You think so? hes pretty 'pearly' maybe bad photos.

GT's are very hard to sex...i was just going on the majority of what others said in the past.

What do you think the Carpintis is? i'm just guessing by teh fins mainly and how docile it is.....saying that they are all docile right now cos they all under 4" :P....I think its a Econdido aswell.

nice group, beware of a male argentea if they decide to they go beserk. I had 1, many years ago, clean house of 2 other argentea,3 spinonossums,3 & 3 hatiensis & he was only 2.5" at the time in a 55 grow out. He went on to live solo until I gave him to a friend who placed himwith 2 larger pikes,& a manguense. He was about 8 -9 " then. Beautiful brutes those argentea.

If you bought it as an Escondido that that is most likely what it is. If you did not that I would never trust to say it is. It is already showing a black dot in it's dorsal so it is almost certainly female. My female is mostly grown and has never displayed a black dorsal spot so it seems a little odd that yours is at it's small size. Guess you got lucky and have one that easy to sex;).

How big is the JD? That's an awefull lot of blue on it's face for it's age to be a male. It is very colorful.

The JD i bought 2 days ago he/she is about 3"...i grabbed that one cos it was the biggest most colourful in the tank so i assumed male.

Yeh i bought the Tex as a Escondido...but this is British LFS's :P they label things however they like :P ...she was labelled 'Common Texas Cichlid "Escondido" '

About the Vieja...yeh i have heard a few storys about them, they are such a beautiful fish tho :P will see how it goes...it does have tons of space in my 100g tho being only 2.5" and is being kept in check by my breeding Convicts :P
