my new black arow i bought a month ago developed some bruises over the past 2 weeks near his tail that resemble black and blue bruises a human would get. nothing i have in the tank is aggressive towards him, infact everything is scared especially during feeding time because hes so large but for some reason sluggish when it comes to eating frozen krill or krickets. Is there something wrong or is he still getting acclimated to the tank and is bruising himself when he gets jumpy at night? and will melafix be worth using to heal his bruises or should i let time heal them?

He was hiding the first week but now is active but just a little skittish towards people within 3 ft of the tank but does not jump just goes to the back corners of the 150gal. so iv never seen him get any of these bruises? any ideas or help would be great thanks.

small but there are about 4 of them all on one side if his body ill take a pic asap

I'm sure tokyogasmask was asking about the size of the arowana. The "bruises" are missing scales. Thiese usually occur when the arowana is being chased or spooked. Exactly what are the type and size of tankmates the arowana is housed with?

oh ahaha woops i always misread the posts when i sign on and ask for advice when im drunk lol. hes 10" and in a 150gal; 6ft by 2ft acrylic red sea tank with two pieces of driftwood which may be the cause of his injuries when he first started to get acclimated to the tank about2 to 3 weeks ago but none of the pieces have sharp edges. tankmates are:
7"odeo pike
7" red tailed tat (only aggressive towards the two tarpon due to territorial issues but those tarpon are tough bastards)
2 6" tarpon.

I reckon the RTC is bugging the Aro during the night, freaking it out making it jump and bash against the cover/bracing etc causing it to loose scales.

Just because you don't see the harassing going on, doesn't mean it's not happening.

its a red tailed payara or red tailed tat part of the payara family but yea maybe there is some night time irritation going on.
