my new 8" blacks tail and lower fin got bretty bad heater burns, but none on the body. i set my heater horizontal about an 1" under the waters surface and i think he rested on it or brushed against it. needless to say i relocated the heater to a vertical position and placed it lower in the tank. i also added 1tbs. of salt per 5g of water, and made shure perams are perfect 0,0,10. anything else i should do, or have i covered all my bases?

ur good. mine heals very quickly. my atf bit up his tail one night, the next day it was almost 100% healed.

get heater guard
you have a beautiful fish, why take an unnecessary risk

i know why he burnt himself, because of how i placed the heater in the tank, its now moved so problem solved. in all the years and multiple dozens of fish i own(ed), i decided to try a different position to place one of my heaters, and this is the first heater burn incident i have ever had.

Makes ya wonder if the fish can feel pain, you would think that once it got hot the aro would move, but they don't. If it turns out to be an open wound I would treat with a dose of melafix.
