I purchased a new blue lobster last night for my 75 gallon tank, my tank currently has a Jack Dempsey, 1 convict, 1 red zebra, 2 plecos, 1 plalitris ( spelling?) 1 frontosa, 1 venutus. My concern is will the lobster attack my fish. A friend of mine said the lobster will kill my fish, however the man at the store said my fish are safe????

I have kept blue lobsters with my convicts and fire mouth cichlids. Not too much problems at all. An occasional fin nip does happen, but never serious. However, from your fish description, i'm acually worried more about your blue lobster since a jack dempsy and frontosa can be both big and aggressive, and can make your lobster into dinner.

don't take this the wrong way, but i whould seriously reconsider your fish list... you know you have 3 different types of behavior and water type fishes in there... needless to say it will never be a stable tank. plus now you want to put a lobster in? come on...

i understand that some people, don't reaaly care about the fishes happyness, and they are only concerned with theyr own feelling wen they look at the tank... still my advice is, learn some more about your fish and you will see you need at least 3 or 4 tank to raise your fish in perfect condition...

so i advise you to choose your favorite fish, get to know us much as you can about it and where he's from, and then choose tank mates from the same water and level of agression... i mean make it look real, make him feel real... they will thank you by living better, happier and longer ;)

good luck. ;)

I had a blue lobster and he was really mean! He got really big and would stab at my fish and would pin them down when ever he got the chance. After a few injuries, we banded his big pinchers, but he would still stab at them. For kicks, we banded a little sword in his pincher...But the fun wore off and we got rid of him. Good luck.

i'm assuming that you mean blue crayfish, since there aren't any freshwater lobsters..

we have 2 large ones in our big tank, they each have their own log home and they don't bother the fish at all except for the occasional squirmish over food on the floor of the tank. the TSN has taken to challeging the larger of the crayfish for scraps of food that the peacock bass and arowana leave behind.

we also have 2 electric blue crayfish in one of the smaller tanks, grew them from microscopic. buying baby crayfish ebay isn't a grand idea.. out of 20 crayfish only 2 survived, and i don't even know if they are female or male or if i might be lucky and have a pair..

i just bought some more hiding places and set up 2 more tanks so i'm going to go to the LFS and buy 2 red crayfish and 2 white ones.. i love having them in the tanks, they are great janitors and fun to watch.
