So I got five 1" Texas from The Wet Spot and another 2.5-3" one same Escondido from the Lfs. Will continue to update them here. The goal is a pair for the 125 and then I'll add some mollies or swords in with them. Not really concerned with breeding but it'd be cool. Little bit of chasing around this week but nothing big. They're really small so have lots of space and the littles have hides that the bigger one can't get to.

Ive done some research and they seem to be omnivores and they smash NLS Thera pretty good. I like the staple pellet with once a week treat feedings, are frozen bloodworms ok for Texas or krill or shrimp better? I've got plenty of Bloodworms around and some krill. I may even switch it up but a lot of my fish just won't eat krill.

Nice been a long time since I've had one. Had a beautiful male around 10 inch till a rtc ate him.... Rip. Mine would take anything as far as food goes from fish fillet to pellet food and everything in between. They can have a temper and do like to get rough, just watch to make sure one is out competing the others.

Mine did best at about 78° they don't like it real hot but definitely like it warm. They also like semi hard water and will eat vegetation from time to time.

Been a couple weeks they're growing a little bit, a little chasing here and there but nothing bad. They are really messy eaters so thinking of getting a catfish like a Raphael/Syno/Hoplo. Anyone else keep hoplos with Texas? Slighltly worried about the aggression when the Texas get to full size. Don't really want to do Synos but they'd work. Raphaels really wouldn't be seen. Nice looking Escondidos. If the sole reason for getting the catfish is to clean up the uneaten food I would not bother, a little uneaten food is less of a strain on the tank's bioload than an additional fish (especially a catfish- they poo a lot) would be.
If you want the catfish because you like catfish, then I would say get one. Of those listed the only one I have kept with texas cichlids is Raphael, which was fine. But like you said, you'll never see it.

Thanks, bioload on this tank isn't a huge concern. In the end it'll just be a pair of Carpintis and the catfish and maybe some spanner barbs if I can find them or some livebearers but that's a ways down the road. I'd like to try feeding them a little more w/o the mess in the tank.

So I've thought about a small group of syno multi but I'd think that would look weird. So was down to Raphaels or hoplos sort of and if I can't find them at the right price I'll go with a syno of some kind. If anyone has any other suggestions for a bottom feeder catfish I'm listening.

They are Carpintis. Not Escondidos.
