Well, i stopped by the lfs today. i decide today i chaged my tank, as i was borred with a rd and 2 parrots. i stopped by the knife tank. there was a a 2 inch brown knife, healthy leaning aginst the glass. on the the oppositea ck same size, leaned against the glass. it didn't look to hardy, but i decided it could go with the convicts. i go to get someone to bag him, and theb owner comes by, says the ck just came in and to take the other ck. i could only see the 2 knives and a castle decor in the middle. well, he rached in, lifted it up to reavel a heathy, shy, 5" ck that had been there for monthes.
It has a spot shaped like micky mouse! I took the rd and put him in a divided side of the con breeder.last knight he was stressed. this morning he is exploring all the caves. i threw in some ghost shrimp, put the pictus was faster. he had a full stomache when i got him, so i got time. the store said he was still on live foods. how do i feed him commercial foods and stop the hungry cats? pics later
 
They will usually take to sinking pellets. Start off with frozen prepared like small peices of shrimp or fish. 5" Is awefully small to try and ween especially when in a new tank. I would wait a couple weeks to amonth and let it get some size on it first before you try and ween. And you are not going to stop the cats. If they want it...they will get it. I hope that does not happen but its the truth.

Frozen Bloodworms always do the trick for me if you want it to get off live.
 
i am very illergic, but ive got them in the frezer, afraid to use them. i guess i'll try them and take a shower right after.thanx.

He is doing awsome. i set up the caves so they are linked through openings only he can get threw, so he is having fun playing in them:D . hes my new fav.
 
Just use gloves if your that disgusted by them. ;)
 
yah try blood worms that did the trick for mine but unfortunately it died in its quarantine tank and if you can't touch them try just throwing them in frozen i don't know if its bad to do that but i have plenty of times without hurting the fish but if you have a problem with the food getting eaten by pictus cats bloodworms might be the worst food to try cause it makes them nuts its like it flips a switch in there heads that makes them hyper and go inhale all of them well thats if your talking about pictus catfish which i think you are
 
ok. well, ive see him wach over his foods. ive tried frozen mysis, freze dried krill, frozen blood worms, freze dried tubifex. he knows the food is there, maybe he is just waits to eat it but the others beat him to it. the good thing is, that he finnally showed the pictus who is boss, by giving it a good bite, however it lets the 5" synodontis push it around.
How uis the growth rate? I want a big preditar:drool:
 
When are you feeding it. They are noctural so feeding it right before lights out is best. They will grow very quickly. With high protein and water changes, I had one gorw about 1.5" to 2" every month.
 
I bought mine about the same size as you have.. he is about 8 inches in three months time.. when i brought mine home he was use to live food so i continued with the live food{small guppies} until after a week or so when he was used to the tank i began offering other foods.. such as the ones mentioned.. make sure he has plenty of places to hide..sounds like you have quite a few tank mates and while he is small he is fragile..later he will be the monster.. I love my CK the best so wish you well with yours too:D

All is awsome!! I decided to go to the lfs to get food. Thwy said just to get 2 or 3 dozen feeder guppies and toss them in. The tank wil go on a food frenzy for a few minutes, the other fsh will lose interest with feeders to spare, and the knife picks them off as it pleases.
I only saw to eating. the pictus made a cruch/pop sound whenever it got one, and the knife kept swiching tactics from ambush to chase. the little parrot tries to cach him, but with no luck. the big parrot is to wise/lazy. he'll jest loaf off in him cave hoping them to enter his mouth. the syno will eat those that wonder a half inch from it.
I have found out my knife is evil. there is 1 large feeder that only he is able to eat. he must no that, because he keeps on creeping up to her, then swiming away, just torchuring it and laughing. COOL!!!:ROFL: :headbang2 :popcorn:
