I think that is absolutely fantastic. Most people, including dont give those creatures enough credit when it comes to being a very interesting aquarium specimen.

After about 30 years of fish keeping of all kinds i stumbled across a large female at one of my normal Native Fish catching sites, and after looking a little closer, i saw she was carrying about 40 babies.. WoW!! i had never seen that before. So i gathered her up, and set up a little tank much like yours, and kept them til the babies were about 2 inches long.

They love earthworm bits, and the mother is very protective, and really cares for those babies well.

I think you have found a new hobby, to take a little of that hum-drum off that can occur after youve kept about everything else out there :)

Thanks for sharing that story with us

Keeping it like that for now. One is a female with eggs atm put her in a separate tank with lots of cover as she wouldn't leave the others alone

And thanks glad u like my project I realy like natives as collecting them is much more fun then simply buying a fish

I think ive enjoyed the native fish keeping hobby much more than i ever did keeping tropicals, or even a reef tank. Nothing compares to getting out in nature and catching your own species. And the things you get to learn, and experience along the way is priceless.

Nice, I caught a crawfish when I was fishing today. I very seriously contemplated taking him home. He had really nice blue claws.

Thats weird, believe it or not, ive caught those when fishing a shallow stream for longear. they dont bite the hook of course, just clamp on to the bait with their pinchers. LMAO

Yah I've seen quite a few with blue claws in the stream behind my house, usually only when they are big, I get them all the time in the minnow trap.

crayfish are pretty cool to keep, ive noticed that they love rocks and will dig under them to hide and they like caves... they also like to get out of the water from time to time especially at night, ive seen them eat worms, frozen peas, live fish, dead fish (for some reason they like chewing on the fins and eating the guts only). ive sen them eat pieces of chicken as well. if seen them try to mate but never had any berry/pregnant female in captivity. ive only caught one that was pregnant. in case you do not know they may appear dead but in reality they could be shedding/molting. ifyou have other crayfish in the tank separate the "dead" one because after it loses its shell it will be soft and vulnerable.youtube videos will show and explain it better.
