Hey guys i have a 150 gallon (5*2*2 ft) tank. Got my datnoid of about 4 inches the day before yesterday. He was kept in my lfs in a community of parrots and other datnoids. The owner told me he ate pellets and even showed me. He going ham on pellets the moment i got him. He is alone in my tank right now without any tank mates. I today offered the same pellets as my LFS but he ignores it and just keeps on swimming. The first day i let him settle and from the next day he started to swim very fine. He isnt scared or anything. He only hides when i dip my net to remove he uneaten food. Can anyone help me feed him? Also i ll be getting a small silver arowana soon. I researched and found about dither fishes. Would it work?

Besides the stress of moving/getting used to his new tank as TheReefer mentions, many young Datnoids are shy/scared to eat until they see other fish eating, so you might consider to get a/some dither fish; there are other recent threads about Dats & dithers if you look in this sub-forum.

Yep checked the forums and everyone was leaning towards silver dollars. I searched my LFS today and only found silver dollars of about 2-3 inches, would they be ok? my dat is about 4 inches. Also i have found a guy who is willing to sell me silver dollars but his are of 6 inches.

aight will get them! How many of them would you recommend?

Sorry I've never kept SD's (my Datnoid's dither fish is a Flagtail buddy), so can't really advise on how many is best (I would just advise not to get too many, so then your Datnoid might actually be intimidated, just a few should do.

okay ill get a pair then!

been a couple of days of getting the pair of Silv. Dollars. Today i fed them sinking pellets and the datnoid went for the pellet and just ignored it. I used the same pellet as previous owners. Should i wait feq more days? or even a week

Yes, just wait, datnoids can go awhile without eating. I'd say give it another week or two, at that point you should try the frozen food on a string trick, if that doesn't work, go for live feeders (gutloaded and quarantined and medicated), if that doesn't work and the fish is emaciated and extremely thin, then you'll have to force feed it.
