I only got 'Damon' yesterday, i know its early doors etc...but the problem is a bit wierd, i'll explain....

He spends all his time flirting and wiggling at the front of my tank, very interactive with anyone who approachs the tank....this is good :)

However as soon as i open the lid of the tank...he darts off terrified into the bottom corner of the tank behind a large pebble

He seems to like my partner better, so i got her to try and he still does the same thing.

So pretty much everytime i try and feed him, he darts off and miss's the feed, the Hikaris i tried to feed him this morning are still floating in the tank, i tried blood worm...he got a little bit but the catfish and Convict got the majority.

I tried flake and he missed it again.

How can i get him used to me opening the lid?

shall i try putting my hand in the tank for a while...so he see's i'm no threat (he has got big teeth tho, so im wary lol)

Or try vacuming/water change etc?

Or am i worrying about nothing and he will come round?

Do u have a light on the tank? I've noticed that can make fish wary...maybe try feeding with the tank light off but ambient room lights on?

Ahh good idea, he just dont seem hungry, is this normal for new adult fish? i have never had this with juvis before :S

No worries bud, fish arnt gonna starve themselves to death. he'll eventually come around:) just give him some time. also what size tank is he in?

I kinda expected him to be a greedy pig like Oscars or like the Flowerhorn i used to own :P

just remember that it wasnt that long ago that somebody came up to his tank, opened the lid and stuck in a net and snatched him out . he will be ok just give him a lil time to get comfortable

True true, so at what time will he turn into a monster? i want him nutty as possible lol (hes 7" right now)

And wil he get greedy like Oscars etc?

Just give him a little time to settle in to his new home. It's very early. Within a week or so, he'll learn his surroundings and become a little more outgoing.

I agree, nothing to worry give him time and let him settle in. He'll be fine. At 3:27PM on Feb 27th he'll turn into a glassbanger.
