Their main diet is snails, mussels and crustaceans. Shrimps with shell and Crayfish I purchase from the FisH BaiT Store. Keep in mind that a puffers dentition grow continously to compensate for wear. If you do not provide the right food the teeth will grow and block the mouth. Fakaha's are quite the "characters". When taking food that is not particularly enjoyed the lips are drawn back to reveal the teeth. In such cases the food is not swallowed right away but chewed over many times.
If you watch for this cue, you will know what your puffer enjoys eating...

I had one that really enjoyed feeder goldfish probably cuz his previous owner had fed it goldfish...and I have had a baby who never ate goldfish and never will???
