Hello, I just got a 4inch wild caught flagtail prochilodus, I was scared of putting him directly into my 180 with my oscar and peacock bass of about 5 inches, so I decided to set up my 50 gallon tank and let him grow to a good size before trying him in the 180, I was thinking of keeping him in the 50 gallon until about 9inches or so

Flag tails grow quite fast, specially when relatively small. I put a 2.5 inch in a 75gal community tank. Before he was 4 inches I already had decided that he was getting too big for that tank, although it took me a while to get the 6 foot tank where he is now.
I will say the 50gal (if it is a 4 footer) may be okay but not for long. And it also depends on what else is in that tank. If it is a 3 footer (something like a 50 breeder?), I would say it is too small. Others may disagree.
Nice fish. It will color up nicely. Good luck!

Well it's a 3 foot 50 gallon breeder, running an aquaclear 110 along with an aquaclear 50, I agree the tank is too small for him, but I dont see any harm growing him in there for the next 4 to 5 months if I do steady water changes, once about 9inches he'll go in the 180
