Ok, here's the pictures. One thing I wonder about-when I bought this fish on AquaBid (Thailand ad) the ad picture showed him/her as being real super pink colored. I know stress can be a factor also, but even given that the fish isn't near pink like in the ad. Do the sellers commonly photoshop the pictures or use colored tank lights to make the FH's appear more red than they are? This is the exact FH from the ad, I can tell from the markings.
I've got a red painted background on this quarrantine tank, but I don't think that's making him/her fade out. Any ideas? He eats like crazy!! I was getting some water out with a test tube to test the water (just to make sure it was ok) this AM and he nailed my finger lol! Bites his air tube hose, bites his heater, begs like crazy and even bit me. He didn't mean to, he thought it was food. I love the personality!! If anyone can answer my questions I'd sure appreciate it. Here's pictures from a few minutes ago, he/she has long trailing fins that I really like a lot (although I wouldn't know a quality FH from a non-quality one).
Male or female?

it's the lighting they used. They used the pink/bluish toned lights to make him look pinkish all through the body.

Ah, I wondered about that. That's ok, he or she has lots of time to color up. And the way this little fish eats it won't be long :-O

They've sure got little buzzsaw teeth at a younger age than Oscars do lol He sure knows human finger carry food. Whoever raised this little fish obviously did a good job socializing him if that's possible with fry (I think it is). Or maybe that's just part of the FH personality. This is my 1st so I don't know :-)

yeah with the fish that i bought when they were about 1/2 to 1 inch they know when i stick my hand in there its feeding time
but i just recently bought one thats already about 4 inches, its been about a week and it still wont eat with me in the room, haha

also when you use flash on a FH all sorts of different colors come out. mines blue, but in pics he looks almost exactly like a trimac.

I'm trying to decide on sand color for his permanent tank. It seems black would bring out the flowers and make his light colors stand out but then I've read never to use black. They can't change their white base color (like some Cichlids can change their dark base color) so I'm not sure the reasons behind not using black. I guess I'll be looking into the different colored bulbs to see if that makes a difference. I don't want to bring out colors that aren't there (like the ads do at times) but I want the colors he does have to look crisp.
No one has any ideas on whether it's a male or female? He was sold as just "young" but on the shipping verification email the breeder specified male. I'm thinking possibly male.
