I have watched you tube videos about how to set them up but I do not understand how the water flows through them. It is supposed to go from the top down through the filter media BUT the intake tube goes to the bottom of the canister.
So, I don't really get how it can be a top down flow. Can anybody with an FX-6 help me out?

Weird flow path no DOUBT, but apparently it works! I have 2 (FX6 & FX5)but haven't been able to get the tank I bought them for yet, so they're just sitting in the box..waiting along with their team-mates the 2262 and CFS 14i..... (Got them all on sale and decided they'd all go great on a 300 if I can ever make that happen...eventually, eventually. or so the wifey says....)

Oh yeah, I hope you don't have sand, and IF you do, I'd recommend pre-filters without pause.....

Keep us posted on how you like it!

Also, if I were you I'd transfer any previously used OLD media from any filters you already had running to the FX6's. Even if you have to cut it up into pieces to make it fit in the media containers, it will GREATLY reduce the cycle time of the new filters.

Thanks. The diagram is super helpful.

It is a brand new tank and I have not had one in a while so I won't be able to transfer any old media,

Getting a 300 set up sounds terrific!!

I do have sand for it...so what pre-filter would you suggest?

My new FX6 is waiting for me at home. The UPS dude delivered it this morning. I'm replacing one of my old Marineland C-530's (which had the impeller seize) with the FX6. Between the 2 huge canisters (and a C-220 I threw in there a year after this pic was taken) I should have plenty of mechanical and biological filtration.
