hes about 3-4", the lfs I bought him from told me to feed him brine shrimp but I was wondering if small fish like guppies would do the trick?

My fish simlar size to your and he's eating guppy fine (I quanrantine my stock first before feeding to my fish).

Looks like a yellow tail or red tail barrucuda. Bigger pic? Ya you can feed it guppies but I would wean it off live ASAP.

Live foods contain very little nutritional value as well as the risk of parasitic infections. If you must feed live foods, the use of a quarantine tank or hospital tank is needed.

I have a 10 gallon tank that is not in use? how would I go about turning it into a quarantine tank? Want to keep this guy as healthy as possible, along with my needle nose gar who is about 1.5" bigger than the yellowtail

Quarantine tank for the guppies? in my own experience a 10 gallon tank is very hard and frustrating to raise a good batch of guppies in. out of all the guppies i've raised in a 10 gallon tank, only 10% of them managed to survive and get fed to my armatus. I would advise a 20 gallon tank raise around 30 guppies.

Other than that, guppies are terrible nutrition values and the hunting of instint of the guppies will make your barracuda aggresive. I definately would avoid that path. Some nice chopped shrimp would do the job. It's alot more healthy than the scampy guppies.

I'm using 2 tanks:
First tank with medicine to take care all common diease like ick, whiteaspot...etc that commonly come from feeders, this is bare tank with filter that cirle the water.
The second tank same size that after I quarantined my live stock atleast a week then I move them to this tank, this tank I setup with undergravel filter and a biowheel filter and some plants. I always feed my live stock full then use them to feed my monster that's way my monster will get some nutrition from those flake/pellets that my feeder ate few nims ago.

Edit: both tanks are 20 galons
