He's right at 5". He shows signs of being in poor water (you can see his fins curved up) so hopefully he's not stunted. I've read these guys can get to 8-9". He was eating within 30 seconds of going in the tank and he's very very active. As a plus he digs.. a lot.. so I'm no longer looking for MTS to stir my sand :D

I have one that is 2 yr's old and just over 6". Mine is darker with spots and one of my favorite catfish as it is very active and personal. Mine loves blood worms. Not sure about the 8-9" max size, never seen or read about one being that size. Good luck and nice pickup.

I have a similar story, lfs got 5 in horrible condition. They seemed to have every disease possible in water so bad i had to push them against the glass with my hand to see them. I got one, brought it home and got him all cleaned up and added him to my 280. With a few days he got out and my pit bull puppy found him and was chewing on him when we found him. Amazingly, he survived all than and hes doing well in our 120 community tank. Very active little guy

Wow, theres some story on the internet about a common pleco jumping out of its tank and every fin was ripped of by their cat, right before they were about to flush it it started moving so they put it back in the tank, no fins at all and scratches all over him, suprisingly the pleco survived and grew all his fins back. Not my story

Hoplos are awesome. Mine will take worms from my hand and if I reach into the tank for anything he'll kinda wrap his whiskers around my fingertip to "sniff" it and check for food. Hes really active and shows a lot of personality.
