I got this singray in yesterday. Its my first ray. He's about six inches in diameter. He went into a custom tank that is 8 ft long by 2 ft wide, same footprint as a 240 but not as tall. I used the estes ultra grade marine sand in beige as substrate. Planning for discus as future tankmates, but I cycled the tank with a mixture of 100 giant danios, serpae tetras, and columbian tetras. I was able to get most of them out before putting in the stingray, but about 15-20 remain. I guess they are staying (until they are possibly eaten).
The stingray didn't move for the first couple hours I put him in, but then I put some frozen bloodworms in and he came alive. Yesterday he ate 4 cubes of frozen bloodworms. I know what to feed, but I don't really know how much. Today he will be being fed red wrigglers and frozen bloodworms and then thursday I have 100 ghost shrimp coming in from a LFS and will be doing that weekly or bi-weekly. And I will switch to chopped earthworms but for today I have the red wrigglers.

looks pretty good, you will love hystrix.. I would keep on red wigglers or cut up nightcrawlers for a while. If he eats these then don't wasted your money on ghost shrimp or blood worms IMO.

How big is he/she?

He is about 6 inches. He came in very plump and seems to love eating. Don't think I will have any problems with feeding this guy.

Nice ray, I am getting a Hystrix soon. Rays are pretty good about eating until they are just full and stopping. You should try to feed a couple times a day while he is small. Good luck man, nice fish!!

do not start the ray eating ghost shrimp. it is really hard to get them to eat anything else once they get a taste for them.

while it is young try to mix in some hikari carnivore(smaller pellets than massivore)with the blood worm to get them eating pellets.
you only have to look at aquamans hystrix(uk ray keeper on here) to
appreciate the benefits of pellet food.

great looking healthy ray.
(jealous!!!!!)

did you get it online? i have been kinda looking for hystrix and comming up dry all around me in MN...i might not be looking in the right places...
