my new iwaki

Great pumps, I have two MD-series pumps (a 100 and a 70) that have been running for about 15 years straight. They aren't the quietest, but they have great head-pressure and last forever.

Out of curiosity, why do you need a high pressure pump? Are you running multiple canister filters or placing the sump in a basement?

Those Iwaki 100s are great for high head applications, but if all you are running is an under tank sump, that pump is totally unnecessary; you can get a lot more flow while using about 30% as much electricity by using a low pressure pump.

Here are some numbers comparing some options that will give you at least 2,000GPH @ 6' of head (I'm assuming $0.20/KWHr but if you happen to fall into the highest tier with PG&E which is $0.34, the numbers are going to look even uglier for the Iwaki).

As you can see, the Reeflo and Laguna blow the Iwaki out of the water. If you are just running the TruFlo 300 sump directly under your tank, I would return that Iwaki and get a Laguna Max Flo 2900.

I think the 5 main advantages to going with the Laguna Max-Flo are:

1. More flow using 71% less electricity (saving you ~$482 in electricity every year)
2. The Lagunas are much quieter than the Iwakis
3. No need to drill your sump
4. Corollary benefit of more heat transfer from submersible pumps
5. Laguna cost less than half what you'd pay for the Iwaki

Hopefully you don't take my comments the wrong way. I'm just trying to help a fellow Bay Area MFKer save some $$$ on your electric bill. :)

Holy crap..that's a big pump for a tank.we have 2 on a pond with 55 gal drum filter..the move quick..
