I'm not sure if the bottom one is a male? Are they both males? I looked around on the web to distinguish their sex and i read that males have the red line on the top fin and that the top and bottom fins are pointy on the end and they have brighter colors. Well they both have that....what u guys think? Their color intensity changes a lot and they both seem to have the same coloration even if in the pic it looks a little different....The bottom one seems more aggressive then the top, he/she chases my Oscars around like nothing even if they are bigger. thanks!

I don't know alot about Jacks, but was always told just like you already said. the red stripe on the dorsal fin and longer more pointy fins....you might have two males.

Top is male, bottom is very difficult, i would say female because of all the blue on the chin. normally males don't have much blue on the chin area and females do.

top is male and bottom is female. Females have a lot of blue pearling on their gill plates.

I agree with Cj, mine is female and has the red so that is no defining matter, usually you can 99% reliably tell by gill plate, male will only have spotting on upper gill plate like the top pic and female will have spotting/bearding on lower gill plate as well like the lower one does

you could just put in a divider until you do want them to breed, generally speaking (there are exceptions of course) unless they are a pair cichlids of the same species are even more aggressive with each other so its best to either have one of each type of fish or have a pair
