my new knife fish

just got me a baby knife fish first night in the tank he ate a baby neon lol was wicked to watch,
just have a question he seems happy and likes the caves i have for him but every so often he hits the surface of the water and gulps down air and goes back about his business its almost as if he thinks theirs food there.

Anyone know why he would be doing this? i have the spray bar half out of the water as to break the surface and air ate the water so i dont think its an issue of air

Most Knives will rush to the top of the tank for a gulp of air. Its a regular thing they do, and many other fish will do the same thing. My African Knife does it every now and again. Also, what species is it? Any pics?

knives are so cool. within the last 3 weeks, i've purchased 2 blacks and 1 clown. they are so cool, especially the blacks. i love the way their fins move, their tails, plus they are simply gorgeous fish.

my clown does the same...my blacks dont so i thought it was weird at first also but it is normal...any pics yet?
