A few months ago my wife was talking to a patient (she's a Dental Hygienist) about our aquariums when he mentioned he had a friend who had a fish that needed a new home. My wife brought home a fuzzy picture of a Pangasius Cat and a phone number. I wanted to wait until summer vacation (I'm a teacher) to pick him up, so today we drove to Salem with a 50 gallon cooler and a rubber angler's net (great pick-up at Sportman's Warehouse).

When I got there I was surprised to see the Monster that awaited us. The fish is about 18" long, but the amazing part is the depth of his body. He was in really good condition, but the 75 gallon tank he was in was obviously way too small. The owner was very sad to see him go, but she was afraid to get a big (240-300 gallon) tank as she lives in a second floor condo.

He is now in my 185 fiberglass tank with my 11" TSN, who looks like a small-fry next to the Pangasius! I covered the tank to calm him down, I'll try feeding him tomorrow.

Does anyone know about the life-span of these fish? This guy is about 7 years old, I was guessing 15-20 years...

Nice pick up. Unusual to see a large one without a banged up nose.

I was pretty stoked! The owner gave me about $25.00 worth of pellets and algae wafers to go with him, too.

His nose got a bit banged up catching him, but it's not bad at all. The owner had really babied him. He eats algae wafers right out of your hand!

I know - To think he's only half-grown!

I'm thinking about a really BIG tank, but I need to find a good deal on a monster-sized piece of glass...

half grown? more like still a baby....lol

Wow...it's in really good condition! She must've took great care of it. Those Irridescent Sharks can grow to 4' in the wild and I think they'll live up tp 25 years.
