I saw many treads where people showed their new fish, so I thought, I'd do that too.

I can tell you one thing.
It was so damn hard to find that species.
I thought they were much more common, but they appear to be somewhat rare, at least here in europe.

I've never seen P. ornatus live before, only on pictures.
It's a beautiful animal!

He's a bit skittish, but I guess that's because he is still in the small, relatively empty "quarantine tank".

Nice looking catfish!

I was gonna try to get one, but I don't hear of them being for sale let alone see one. Nice pickup, they're pretty catfish lol.

TUIC can get them. In case you want them, moe214 moe214 .

Thank you, I think it'd be better if I pass now though lol.

Nice-looking fella. Makes me miss my trio I've lost. They were still juvies.

Wet Spot has had them for a while, still have two it would appear:
Pimelodus ornatus 5" WILD $50.00 2 ONLY
http://www.wetspottropicalfish.com/index.php/fish

They are rare ime too, I've seen them in person only once and bought three. They are not cheap either. $50 for a 5"-er is a fair, if not good, price, from whatever little I've been gleaning about them.

Wet Spot's on-line prices are most usually very good.

As you guessed ManuelP and TBTB confirmed they are fairly rare in the trade. The skittishness will subside a little but they feel more comfortable in groups. They don't mind the light as much as some other cats and can be very personable. Planetcatfish reports that they even become tame enough to hand feed. I've had no personable experience with hand feeding perhaps because mine was a lone individual in a fairly rambunctious tank. Good luck with yours, may he bring you years of enjoyment.

They are nice cats.
