I just picked up this 10incher from my LFS for 20 bucks. Aint too bad I suppose. There is a problem though that I did not notice in the store. There is a patch on his body where his scales are "frosty" and slightly curled. At first I thought it was a fungus in its early stages, but it really doesnt look like it to me. Any thoughts?

A close up pic of the area involved would be helpful. But I'll venture a guess it suffered a minor injury and the frosty look is where the slimecoat is missing.Keep an eye on the area
for the next cpl of days and keepthe water as clean as possible the slimecoat shouldreplenish itself in 24 to 48 hours-Anne

that's an awesome price...around here a 3" ornate costs around $30. nice pickup. like the others have already said, keep the water as clean as possible and beef him up a little and he should do great. :grinyes:

man that is a sweet lookin bichir...its looks like its a descent size how big is it and how much u pay...

It is 10-12" and like I said I paid 20. My water is really clean and I do at least 2x h20 changes a week because he is in my ray growout tank. The white patch is already healing. He did not eat last night though and that worried me. I tried squid and earthworms. Any other suggestion?

Not eating for a cpl of days is not uncommon it just needs time to settle into it new enviroment try bloodworms just after you turn the lights out. Many ornates tend to be fairly nocturnal.-Anne
