So after a lot of research and time spent looking for a fish, I was finally able to get a baby Red Tail Payara. He's about 3 inches long and seems to be healthy. I'm really happy with him, except one of his long bottom teeth looks bent to the side when you look closely... Which I don't know if that can be a problem when this guy gets bigger...

I was told about a dude on eBay so I checked him out and we did everything through paypal. I'm a little nervous though because his front left bottom tooth is bent back a little and looks like it's stabbing the roof of his mouth.. I don't know if he somehow hurt himself last night or what, but it looks like it's bugging him. Will it eventually straiten back out or will he get used to it? Or could this be a problem??

Payara lose their teeth frequently as they grow, which is probably what is happening ... the new tooth folds up from inside his mouth into position ... and if the tooth is in and crooked it is still no problem, as long as he can eat, because he will lose it soon enough and new teeth will come in

Alright thanks, I heard other stories of this happening, he just seems to be uncomfortable which I'm sure he is. He was just expensive so I'm being cautious and nervous.. Ha

Its good to be cautious and attentive ... once you know how the fish acts normally it is easy to notice a change in behavior and thus its an early warning to a possible problem, and can be fixed before its too late

Looks like it could be an Armatus too, although its too early for me to tell ... fish looks nice and healthy either way

Yeah I ordered a red tail but it looks a lot like an Armatus. Is it just too young to tell right now?
