Last week I decided I wanted to move my pond. It would collect too many leaves under the oak trees and I wasn't always home to scoop them out.
So earlier this week I chose an open area to put my new pond. I originally wanted a long rectangular pond about 2-3 ft deep. When I was finished digging it came out like this:

This is the basic shape of it, but I haven't got it exactly like I want it yet. I dug it out in 1 day because there was no tree roots here. I don't know how many gallons it will hold.I plan to have a bog area too, but i'm not 100% sure I am going to do it. I already bought a few plants for it. I have corkscrew rush, variegated sweet flag, a water lily, and a black gamecock iris. I want to get some more plants like anacharis, hornwort, a few others, and maybe some kind of aquatic grass if I can find some. Does anyone know if hairgrass can be grown in ponds?
I am going to get some rocks hopefully this weekend to go around the liner.

Thanks :)
I can't decide what to stock it with yet. I was thinking about goldfish, maybe koi. I also like sunfish. I don't know if it's big enough for any fish larger than a big goldfish.

Is that center island of soil staying?

If so, it will distrupt flow quite a bit making complete filtration issues and dead spots...

Actually, I cut the island down to about a foot high, and made it a plant shelf. It was looking good and running well until my cousins visited. The kids knocked a hole in the side. Now I have to repair it before my goldfish (picked up two about 3 days ago) give up on having a permanent home, lol.
I'll get an updated picture up as soon as the pond is fixed.

I put my fish back in the pond yesterday. I was taking the water out of the aquarium I had the fish in and I found a bunch of goldfish eggs! They covered the bottom of the 30 gallon aquarium and the filter intake with eggs. I hope they hatch.

Here's a photo I took after I filled the pond up the first time and added the fish. The orange goldfish in this photo is the mother.

Filtration details?

Thanks for the share
