Hi all
Some may recall me from previous posts, others may not (they're the lucky ones!)
Well, for the past few days now I have been working on a new pond - my previous efforts have been seriously limited by space but I finally got around to clearing a reasonably sized area in my tiny garden.
I have now finished the digging and lining so thought I would post here and share how proud and happy I am with it; I apologise, I didn't do a series of before and after pics as I would have normally because I've actually been hard at work with it instead of snap-happy lol!
Anyway, the dimentions of the new pond are (in CM)
120 wide
60 deep
60 long
Now, I know this is still tiny in most minds, and boy, it's nowhere near as good as some of the ponds on here by a long shot! But it's hand-dug and the water feature was also hand built, so I am damn proud of it!!
There are two "shelves" under the water for plants, the first is to the left-hand side as you look it and is at 20cm down, it's a relatively large shelf, it's all the way across the pond (60cm) and is about 35cm wide.
The second shelf runs the remaining width of the pond (95cm) and is at 40cm deep, this extends 15cm into the body of the pond.
Anyway, I have literally come inside from filling it with water - there is still a lot of liner to cut back to make it look nicer and plants to buy and place in there. All in all I think it will look really nice, I'll get around to scanning in the concept sketches and photos of the finished item!
OK, so, before I sign off for now (sorry for the long post and I appreciate anyone who's read this far!), I have a couple of small questions that I hope the members here can help with.
1. I am getting a pump and filter in a week or so - do I still need oxygenators, or not?
2. As it was filled with tap water, do I need to treat this before putting in fish?
3. How long should I wait before I move my existing Golden Orfes from their current home into the new pond? I will be putting them in a bag and climatising them first, I won't just fish them out of one pond into another
4. I currently have a small number of GO's (4 and 2 z-carps), will there be a problem in introducing another "batch" (the pet store pre-quarrantines new arrivals) to them?
Phew, I think that's all for now haha, sorry to have gone on and on, I really really am grateful for any advice the members can give a fish/pond newbie, especially regarding the 4 points above!
Cheers all!
