Ok so this will be my first breeding project w/ anything more then cons or livebearers so figured id ask for some tips before my fish are even mature enough to mate.

My plan is to cross a supposed male f1 escondido green texas (the escondido part is in question, i asked the owner of the lfs that got them at auction and he said they were marketed as f1 escondido carpintis) with festae, then maybe throw a KKP or something else into the mix. Kind of like red tex except swap the initial BP lineage and red contribution w/ festae. Ill be using a 70 ga tank once my big tanks up n running and my normal fish (bichirs dats wolf pbass) are out of it. Ive always wanted to create my own line, i wont be selling them to LFS just friends and guys on here, so dont get your pantys in a bunch about hybrids ruining the hobby.

Currently the male gtex is about an inch larger then the fem festae i plan to pair w/ it. Both are smaller, festae about 3 inch and gtex about 4, so i got some time before theyre ready to breed. Should i raise them together? Or on oppositte sides of a divided tank? Or seperate tanks entirely? Also any tips on making them pair up?

After seeing the outcome of a festaexgreentex in the big hybrid thread i gotta try for em lol. Maybe something cool can come out of this

Idea; breed the festaexgreentex w/ a jag seeing as jags sleep with anything it seems, or maybe even a convict to make em smaller and easier to breed? I know festaexjag is possible, w/ the gtex in the mix is it still? Id like to make a more predatory looking hybrid line

+1 jags and convicts are the whores of the water world lol

Would it be better to try to cross the texstae (yeah just made that up lol) to a convict to make it smaller and easier to breed or a jag to give it a more predatory look? Are either combos even possible?

Oh yeah for sure, and it just so happens my lfs got in some big ones, too big! First time ive seen em around here and they were all like 7-8 inch and a dark shade of purple

First is my only fem festae at about 3 inch, second is my male carpintis at around 4 inch. Im looking for more female festae since ive heard you have better chances w/ multiple females and only male in the tank being the one you want them to hybridize with.

Around how big do you guys think they need to be to spawn?
