After losing my flowerhorn about a month ago, I decided it was time to finally move on. I've learned from my mistakes (lights will go on everyday, no more skipping 1-2 days a week feeding, lid has virtually no way to jump out, not teaching it to jump out of the water to eat krill, in a more busy area) and hope to raise this guy to 8-11" and live for the 5-10 years they average.

I was told the parents are F1, a Midas and Red Devil of some sort. Definitely a male as well. I was told he had a partner, but killed her one day when they were shuffling stock around. Although then again that could've been the male that was killed and this is a female...

Regardless, I know it's pretty hard to get specifics on these nowadays, but do any of you here have any ideas as to what it is specifically? I was drawn to his black eyes as I've never seen one with them like that before. Any reasoning to explain that?

Also, I wasn't really aware just how deserving of the name and reputation these fish have. This one was in a tank full of similar sized convicts, juvie umbees, a larger GT, and was chasing everyone around. In another tank was a larger red devil (5-6") backing down a 8-9 inch jag, harassing a sleeper goby, and showing no fear towards a 9-10 inch flowerhorn. Also why I chose the name. The black eyes, the attitude... they are pretty amazing little fish. Just as bold as my previous flowerhorn, he was attacking the glass and digging around in the substrate just minutes after placing him in his new home.

If they told you it's a hybrid then it's a hybrid haha
Also, I've seen female Midevils kill males and vise versa so unless he had been a part of a successful spawn Id be weary about a confirmed sex especially at that size. He or she looks like 3".
They're great fish. I can't see myself not owning an amph now. Best fish.

These fish can get larger and live longer... I had a male Red Devil that lived 16 years...

we just call them hybrids.. i have some midevils in the pond which are almost identical to yours.. i have some of them in the tank bfore releasing them in the pond and regarding on the black eyes i thnk it's prbbly because it's going through the fading process.. as u can see in my avatar pic, my midas had also black eyes when it is fading.. it will eventually turn back to normal when the fading process is done..
and btw, are his colors light yellow like tht when u bought him, or is it because of the lights tht are lightening them? usually most midas and red devils hybrids are orange in color.. nver seen one tht is light yellow ..
nice pick btw man.. keep updating :)
