He is a 4" Midas/Red Devil. I just bought him last week. He doesn't seem interested in pellets. At first I thought it was b/c they were floating, but when I bought the sinking ones he seemed to ignore those too. Any ideas?

Give him time. Don't worry, he can go for a couple weeks easy without food. Eventually he will devour the food. Hunger is the best sauce. Also, does he have any tank mates? If the other fish are eating then he soon.

Initially I thought this was the issue, but he has come right up to them and ignored the pellets...maybe some live food?

May I ask what you feed?

My oscar had suddenly refused Hikari Cichlid Staple when she was 3" but now eats Hikari Cichlid gold at 14". I switched to Wardley's Shrimp Pellets then TetraCichlid Jumbo Sticks. She loves both of these.

All my fish love Hikari pellets apart from the Jag who hates them with a passion. She is quite happy to eat other cheaper pellets though so maybe try him on non Hikari food.

Figures he's gonna be a pain....he's worth it though.

It'll eventually eat but if youre worrying try doing a 50% water change and raise the temp to 80. This should get him hungryyyyy.

I assume you got him from your lfs what was he eating there. Try feeding it that then slowly wean him onto what ever pellet you decide will be his staple.
