Hello everyone, I recently added a red headed severum to my 75g with my oscar and gar. The oscar is about 12 in. and the redhead is about 7. Obviously the oscar didn't take to nicely to the severum entering his tank so I set up a cave that the severum could enter but the oscar can not. The oscar pokes his head in and tries to pick on him every once and awhile, so the severum almost never leaves his cave(once and awhile he will go over with the gar, but that's it). It has been a few days and he doesn't even come out to snatch up a pellet, I am beginning to become a bit concerned. Is this normal? When will the oscar get used to him? Please help.

The sev is at a big disadvantage. The Oscar sees the tank as his and more than likely wont allow the sev to settle. What you could do is take the Oscar out rearrange the tank leave the sev in and let it acclimate for maybe a day or two then add the Oscar back. Although with size difference the Oscar may just reassert itself and a 75 isn't much room for both together. It really only big enough for the Oscar by itself

IMO adding another large cichlid with a big oscar in a tank of that size that is well established is asking for trouble. The tank isn't really big enough to add another fish large enough to stand up to the oscar, so your best bet would be something small enough to not be seen as a thread [but big enough to not be eaten] and fast-moving.
